My favorite crab tomato noodle soup(Bun Rieu). It's flavorful and fragrant noodles cooked in a tomato soup with crab met balls. Fresh toppings of raw cilantro and bean sprouts gives it a nice complimentary crunch to this delicious noodle soup of goodness!
My go-to comfort food in my city is this restaurant, Kimbo. Here, I will order the house special noodles. It contains minced pork, fish balls, green onions, thin or thick noodles of your choice, a few pieces of roast duck, pork, and pork liver. I don't eat pork liver myself, but the rest takes delicious! The soup is chicken soup broth and it is soo good and affordable, about $8.
Garden Cafe has been in the city of Monterey Park for at least a decade. It is not always popular, but at least everyone knows it's there. It opens almost the entire night, and is great for late night shenanigans. My favorite item from here is their clay pot porridge. It is more fragrant than a lot of other porrides I've had at different places. I recommend trying the classic Pi Dan (Century Old Egg)....
